Southwest Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency

With the passage of the California Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (“SGMA”) in 2014, the Southwest Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency (“SWKGSA”) and its Board of Directors are participating in the implementation of the SGMA regulations and working to protect the interests of landowners within the SWKGSA boundaries. The SWKGSA is taking an active role in helping its landowners understand and comply with these new regulations as they are put into place.

Board Meeting Notice SWKGSA Board agendas and minutes are available under Public Meetings. The SWKGSA Board of Directors has updated their bylaws and will hold regular board meetings on the first Friday of every other month at 1 p.m.

New Economic Report Seeks to Highlight Significant
Water Challenges for California Communities

A new report by University of California, Berkeley, economists Dr. David Sunding and Dr. David Roland-Holst shows that the California economy will suffer unless responsible, balanced water reforms are enacted in the effort to achieve groundwater sustainability goals in the San Joaquin Valley.  Read the full press release.

 

DWR Publishes Best Management Practices for Sustainable Management of Groundwater (December 2016) – The DWR published Best Management Practices and Guidance Document, a series of five documents that provide regulatory clarification, technical guidance, and general examples to assist groundwater sustainability agencies ("GSA") and inform local agencies and stakeholders. The BMPs will serve as an important reference as GSAs develop their plans to sustainably manage California’s groundwater basins.

 

California's Groundwater (Bulletin 118) Updated in 2020 – The California Department of Water Resources ("DWR") issued California's Groundwater (Bulletin 118), which provides key information to help local agencies meet requirements and deadlines under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act ("SGMA"). Bulletin 118 is California’s official compendium of the occurrence and nature of groundwater statewide.
